Lightning Struck Alligator Juniper Wood Essential Oil

Lightning Struck Alligator Juniper Wood Essential Oil

All of the Juniper Wood oil that we offer has been cured, or aged, for long periods of time in the heartwood of the deceased trees. The older trees have oil that is aromatically very rich and loaded with sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpenols. This batch of lightning struck Juniper wood oil is from a tree that was around 650 years old. Lightning struck wood is prized in many cultural traditions as a talisman for protection and transformation. The oil from this wood is extremely grounding. After all, that is exactly what the tree did for the lightning! The oil has a thick consistency and is just on the edge of being heavier than water. It has a relaxing, warm, smoky aroma, which evokes a feeling of connection to the ancient highlands of the Southwest. Needless to say, this is a finite limited edition!

We have always enjoyed collaborating with people concerning plants and essential oils, but we’re finding these relationships to be especially supportive and uplifting at this time. In recent newsletters we have talked about working with Castle Hot Springs, Local Juicery, and Yerba Buena Farm, Jamaica, and now I’d like to shout out about some other friends! We have been working with Lola King, from Be Kind Botanicals. She is a clinically trained aromatherapist from the Phoenix area, a passionate plant lover, and has a fantastic website with many beautiful offerings. Recently she came upon some rare lightning struck Alligator Juniper wood, and many spent hours enthusiastically planing it down into shavings that we could distill. It has been a wonderful experience to team up with her and work with this treasure from plant world.

Unsprayed Lavandin Essential Oil from Purple Turtle Farm

Purple Turtle Farm

We also teamed up with Shawna and Scott Jones from the Purple Turtle Lavender Farm and Bed and Breakfast in Bridgeport, AZ, to distill their unsprayed Lavandin ‘Grosso’. They grow exceptional plants on their farm and the oil has a very smooth, round, refreshing and relaxing aroma. They kept us very busy distilling so we have a nice volume of this oil and have reduced our price. If you are in the Sedona/Verde Valley area, please consider their bed and breakfast for a relaxing and lovely place to stay!

Organic Valencia Orange Essential Oil

There’s also a new citrus oil to add to the collection from Local Juicery. Valencia Orange has an emotionally uplifting aroma that takes me back to childhood. It reminds me of a Creamsicle or 50/50 bar, with a combination of Orange Sherbet and Vanilla Ice Cream. It is an enlivening oil and provides excellent anti viral immune support. Cleaning and scraping the pulp out of the peels is a long and laborious process, but it makes for an aromatically fantastic, longer lasting essential oil!

Desert Lavender Blooms

Desert Lavender

We’re very happy to announce that we have a small amount of the Desert Lavender back in stock, for the first time in years! Four years ago the winter was so dry that all of the large specimens died back to the point where we thought they had been lost. We visited them every year and watched their slow recovery, but didn’t do any real collecting until this past spring. Because of the decent amount of rainfall last winter, not only did many of the older specimens bounce back, but new plants sprouted as well. We had actually never seen the plants look so lush, but we were still conservative in our collection because we didn’t know what the future would bring. I’m glad that we listened to ourselves because as it so happens, we had a terrible summer monsoon season and it looks like we are falling into another La Nina drought cycle.

The aroma of the essential oil is also much sweeter this year. It is so complex and unique that we never blend it with anything besides a carrier. Desert Lavender is a soothing, mint family plant that grows in a harsh environment where there is maximum potential for burns, bites, punctures, scrapes and stings. It is a gift from nature for easing these irritating experiences, and it is also just as healing to our emotional state. This same desert landscape is also a place of great peace and the Desert Lavender reflects that serenity. The oil and hydrosol are a go to for anxiety, sunburn, irritated skin and itchy bug bites.

Wild Peppermint Essential Oil

The Wild Peppermint plants have continued to do well in our local waterways, and since we did not have any dramatic monsoon storms and flooding this summer, they faired well. It is one of the most uplifting and exhausting plants for us to collect, because the collection must be done from inside the rushing, bouldery creek. The Wild Peppermint oil has a sweet, chocolaty “Peppermint Patty” aroma and is amazingly effective for avoiding the flu when used immediately for nausea. The hydrosol is also a lovely cooling body spray that is soothing for fevers and fatigue from hot weather. One teaspoon of the hydrosol in a cup of room temperature water, sipped before, during and after a meal, is an effective digestive stimulant that relieves the feeling of bloat and food sitting in the stomach. We are offering a $4 price drop on a 2 ml. of the essential oil, and a $10 price drop on a 5 ml. of the essential oil.

Green Pinyon Pine Cone Essential Oil

The cones were larger than normal because of last winters rain, so we were able to distill a good sized batch. The oil has a sweet, round, resinous aroma, which blends well with just about everything! Since nature was generous with us, we are happy to offer a $5 price drop on a 5 ml. of this oil.

Sandsage Essential Oil

Sandsage tends to have a fairly low yield of essential oil, probably due to growing in such an arid environment. It normally receives less than 10 inches of rain per year, and my guess is that this year it received much less. We are offering a $11 price drop on a 5 ml. from this batch because it has mucolytic and antitussive properties that are important at this time. This oil has an expansive aroma that blends well with Junipers, for a classic high desert scent and immune strengthening effect.

A Personal Experience and an Important Remedy

I recently suspected that I had Covid because I developed a low-grade fever and swollen glands that felt like they came fast out of nowhere. I was surprised by these symptoms because I have been careful and have felt my immunity to be quite strong lately. I immediately got myself tested and then quarantined. By the time I received the (negative) test result I was mostly better because of a completely natural and easy process. I wrote about the practice of “grounding” in our last newsletter, but this experience was so dramatic that I feel compelled to share about grounding again.

When I arrived at the clinic in the morning, my temperature was 100.3, and my skin had an unusual burning sensation. Fevers usually rise during the day, and I felt much worse by the afternoon. I made an inhaler with the Lightning Struck Juniper Wood oil to assist with grounding, and the Valencia Orange for its anti viral properties and to help me with the heavy emotional state that I was in. I have been eager to work with these oils and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. I took the inhaler outside and used it, put my bare feet on the ground, and played with my dog. In about 15 – 20 minutes my fever was gone. I felt no more burning sensation and my energy returned. My glands were still swollen, but I felt physically and emotionally renewed. The results were much greater than I even thought possible.

Physically connecting with the electro magnetic field of the earth is vitally important for every level of our wellbeing at this time. It boosts our immunity, resets our nervous systems and uplifts us emotionally. Please give it a try if this is not something that you already do!

Here is the simple inhaler recipe that I used:

10 drops of Valencia Orange Peel oil
5 drops of Lightning Struck Juniper wood oil

Blend these two oils in a small dish, allow your inhaler insert or a small piece of cotton to absorb the oils and then place it into your inhaler tube. You can play with more of less of either of these oils, or add a drop of another oil such as Patchouli for a middle note.

We wish all of you peace and protection. Feel free to connect with us if you have any questions about the plants and their oils and hydrosols, or to share your experiences.
